Crown of Love Organization is a community-based charity founded in Mukono, Uganda. Officially established in 2020 during the height of the Covid pandemic, it raises funds for those in need within Uganda and the local community.
They do this through fundraising for outreach in schools and hospitals and providing support for those who are in need of social, moral, and material support.
History
Where it all began. Crown of Love Organization started through the vision of a person with a big heart and even bigger dreams: Birigwa Stephen. Stephen firmly believes that God created each and every person with unique creativity, passion, and talents. He believes that we are all alive and on this planet to do something BIG!
In 2020 when Uganda went into a total lockdown due to Covid-19, within just two months, Stephen knew the Lord was calling him to do something different, and take initiative at a greater level.
He started by giving out small food hampers from his personal savings to the neediest members of his church. As time moved on and the need grew bigger, he wanted to reach more people in need, including those who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
Sitting down in his room with his two good friends, the idea of going further to help more people was not supported at first because at this time everyone was fighting for their own survival. Shortly after, he was encouraged by a friend from the United States to post what he wanted to achieve on his Instagram account; they told him to be completely honest with his vision and how people could support him. Stephen did exactly that; he explained his dream and his desire to reach out to, and help many more different families in need with food baskets and other necessities. He also highlighted the challenges he was having in accomplishing this due to a lack of funds. Stephen stressed that his dream was dying, but reinforced his tenacity to not give up. As he decided to sell off his television to buy a wheelchair for a crippled boy called Jonah, his big heart, courage, and determination gained him several good friends across the globe; and many donations to the organization’s causes. He describes these friends as ‘angels’, as they helped to make Stephen’s dream a reality by funding these projects and helping us to establish an organization.
Crown of Love Organization started with a dream, and the dream hasn’t changed. It has grown and matured. It has become even more than Stephen ever imagined it.
The Team
We’re incredibly blessed by all of our board members. Each person plays a different, yet valuable role in the workings of our organization.
Other angels
There are so many people who give their time and talents in order to help Crown of Love Organization run as smoothly as possible! While we can’t list every single person who has ever played a role in our ministry, please know that we are so, so thankful for each and every one of you! Special and extra thanks go out to:
Mr Joshua Trammell, Mrs Caroline Trammell and family, Imani Pratt (UK), Alexandra Asachi (Australia), Amelie Gaito (US) Melinda Wong (US)
Get involved
Inspired by our mission and want to help support us with it? We’re always looking for willing volunteers who are looking to provide their time, expertise or funding towards our outreach campaigns. Below are a few ways you can help us achieve our goals.
Spread the word!
Social media has become an incredible way to make a statement and support a cause. We’re in need of people who will use their social networks in order to raise awareness about what we are doing in Uganda. So if you have Instagram, please follow us and share some of our posts. We would really appreciate it.
Hosting a sponsorship gathering is one way of using word of mouth to spread the word; simply invite your friends/family over, feed them some delicious food, and show and tell them about the amazing work that we are doing to change lives through our various projects.
Donate
There are a variety of ways you can donate to us. As you have seen, our organization is involved in a wide array of activities. If supporting us to complete our village clinic isn’t your thing, the option is available for you to give to any of our other projects. We hope that if you decide to give to Crown of Love, you will truly feel like a part of the family! We absolutely could not do anything without you! Thank you!
Come and visit
Travelling all the way to Uganda can seem pretty intimidating to a lot of people. The travel is long, for sure! However, once you arrive in Mukono, you will realize what a good decision you made to come! The incredible (read: perfect) weather, the gorgeous vistas and the bright, and sweet smiles of the Ugandan people will amaze even the most exhausted traveller.
Coming to Crown of Love is an experience that will stick with you long after you reach home. Consider this your personal invitation to come and be a part of something much bigger than yourself. We hope to meet you soon!
Values
1. Glorify God: we make mention of God in all we do and say (John 3:30); we will give God glory in all things because all comes from Him (Rev. 4:11, Psalm 115:1, 1 Cor. 16:20); as we give glory to God, we will live our lives in such a way that others also glorify Him (Matt. 5:16)
2. Creating and sustaining healthy families
3. Reaching the unreached
4. Breaking negative cycles
5. Empowering youth and single mothers
6. Sacrificial service: real love involves sacrifice and we will be willing to sacrifice for others (John 15:12); God is not unjust and will not forget the work you do (Heb 6:10); we will follow the example of sacrificial service that was set for us by Jesus (Mark 10:45); we will not neglect to do what is good (Heb 13:16); laying down our lives for people will be the greatest way we can show them love (John 15:13)
7. Equality: we believe that all people – no matter their socioeconomic status – should have access to a lab, a trained medical professional and a full pharmacy.
Current projects
Our construction in Trammell village clinic began from a paper sketch to a vision to provide quality medical care to people who can’t afford to receive treatment at an established clinic in the nearby town. This has caused a number of unnecessary deaths and illnesses in Wabinyira village, who would otherwise have gotten help in a clinic.
Our facility is still currently under construction and we desire to upgrade it to “hospital” status with time. Building the clinic is taking time, effort, and money. We are determined to meet more needs in our community but we can’t do it without the love and support of generous people.
Aims
A comprehensive laboratory
Proper diagnosis is imperative to proper treatment. This type of diagnosis can not be possible without operating laboratory equipment as we refuse to have anyone treated without a real diagnosis. The investment into the lab equipment has ensured that the quality of care is above the standard.
Clinic-stocked pharmacy
Unfortunately most clinics in our nearby towns do not carry fully-stocked pharmacies. A patient might go to receive treatment, but be sent elsewhere for the actual drugs. This leads to prolonged illness and non-compliance. Through this clinic we desire to maintain a fully-stocked pharmacy in order to not only cater to the needs of the village, but also to ensure that the best care can be provided to patients.
Dental suite
A quality dental care room is one of the hardest things to find in central town. Most of the time, when you visit a dentist, he/she resorts to extracting teeth rather than filling them. We desire to hire highly-trained dentists and high-tech equipment in order to allow the clinic to offer specialized dental care at affordable costs!
Accessible for low income patients
We want to provide quality and affordable medical care to everyone who walks through our doors. However, we cannot do this alone! Treatment will be free for kids but adults will have to pay some money for the smooth running of the clinic so we need amazing people like you to stand with us. One day we believe we won’t need this support, but, for now, it is so valuable! To give toward the clinic project costs click on our gofundme page.
Other ways to help – volunteer
Are you a medical professional, a medical administrator or any other sort of individual who has an interest in medical things?
Do you have the desire to come and serve on a short-term trip at Trammell village clinic? If so, let us know by contacting us/sending us an email. We are keen to have volunteers help more so that different families and villages can be treated for diseases through medical camps.
We pray that you will land here with us. We pray that you will allow God to use your time, talents, energies and – yes – even your money to change the life of someone half a world away. No sacrifice is too small (or too big!) because one by one, as we partner together, we can change the world.
What counts is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.
